Gordon
Our “Big Papa” with the heart (and belly) to match!
At eight years old and nearly 28 pounds, Gordon earns his nickname “Garfield” every single day. This handsome orange tabby has always been a big boy, but a few years ago his size became life-threatening when he suddenly stopped eating. The diagnosis: hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease) – one of the most serious liver conditions in cats. When a cat (especially an overweight one) goes without food even for a short time, the body starts breaking down fat for energy. The liver can’t keep up with the flood of fat, and it quickly becomes overwhelmed and inflamed. Without rapid treatment, the liver fails.
To save Gordon, our veterinary team placed a feeding tube, provided round-the-clock nutrition and fluids, and carefully balanced multiple medications. It was a long, tense recovery, but Gordon pulled through with his trademark calm and charm.
Today Gordon is healthy but always on our radar. He receives routine bloodwork, diabetes screening, and regular check-ups, along with a weekly grooming schedule – because at his size he can’t fully groom himself. (Yes, that includes regular baths and a clean “rear-end spa day.”) Despite it all, Gordon is the undisputed favorite of every cat here. They flock to him for naps and comfort, and he accepts their adoration like the gentle patriarch he is.
