About PURRR

We are a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. At PURRR, we are more than a cat rescue – we are a passionate team of cat lovers on a mission to create a better future for cats and their human companions. Founded in 2018, we've been tirelessly working to provide a safe haven for cats in need and to promote responsible pet ownership within our community.

Our dedicated team, along with our volunteers, bring a wealth of experience and compassion to everything we do. From adoptions, to our spay + neuter services, every aspect of our organization is driven by a deep love for cats and a commitment to their well-being.

Meet Our Founder

Passionate about both feline friends and the vulnerable in our world, Tanya Lynn Heller, our Founder and Clowder Queen, has dedicated her life to championing those without a voice.

Arriving in Fort Lauderdale from Washington D.C., Tanya and her philanthropic husband, Andrew Heller, President of the board and Kitten King, were struck by the sheer number of stray and feral kitties in the area. With a year-round mating season, the population density seemed overwhelming. Taking action, they began rescuing and rehoming neighborhood kitties. However, their reputation as advocates for these fabulous Fort Lauderdale felines quickly grew and as word spread, the community’s gratitude transformed into a desire to contribute. The inevitable growth of support paved the way for PURRR’s official inception – a sanctuary born from love and necessity.

Tanya’s unwavering commitment has turned compassion into action, forging a haven where cats’ lives are transformed, and connections between humans and cats are deepened.
