From Resolutions to Reality: How You Can Help Cats in 2025
The new year is here, bringing a fresh start for all of us—and a chance to make a difference for the cats in our community. At PURRR, we believe that with a little compassion and action, 2025 can be the year we create real change for both pets and community cats in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County.
This past year, we proudly spayed and neutered over 3,000 cats, preventing countless litters and improving the lives of cats across our community. In 2025, we want to do even more—but we need your help to turn these resolutions into reality. Here’s how you can get involved and make this year a life-changing one for cats in need.
1. Spay/Neuter: The Foundation for Change
Spaying and neutering are the most effective ways to reduce the cat population humanely and improve feline health. For pet owners, these procedures are essential for preventing diseases, reducing certain behaviors, and stopping unplanned litters.
For outdoor and community cats, participating in TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) programs helps these cats live healthier lives while minimizing the strain on local shelters.
At PURRR, we’re committed to continuing the work that made 2024 such a success—over 3,000 surgeries performed! Whether it’s your own pet or a community cat, scheduling a spay or neuter is a resolution that makes an immediate impact.

2. Adopt or Foster a Cat in Need
Spaying and neutering not only prevent unwanted litters but also contribute to longer, healthier lives for cats. For female cats, spaying reduces the risk of uterine infections and certain cancers, including breast cancer. Male cats benefit from neutering, which helps prevent testicular cancer and reduces prostate issues.
Additionally, spaying and neutering can improve behavioral health. Neutered male cats are less likely to roam or get into fights, decreasing the risk of injury or contracting diseases from other animals. This applies to both companion and community cats—reducing territorial aggression, marking, and the likelihood of harmful encounters.
3. Volunteer Your Time
Do you have a little extra time to give this year? Volunteering is a resolution that creates ripple effects in your community. Whether you’re helping at adoption events, assisting with TNR programs, or providing daily care for cats in need, your time saves lives.
Whether you can commit an hour a week or one afternoon a month, there’s always a way to get involved. Together, we can make Broward County a better place for cats and the people who love them.
4. Donate, Sponsor, or Attend Our Fundraiser
Not everyone has the time to volunteer or foster—but you can still help! Financial contributions fund vital services like spay/neuter surgeries, medical care, food, and supplies.
5. Spread the Word
Some resolutions are as simple as sharing your passion for cats. Talk to your friends, family, and neighbors about the importance of spaying/neutering and adopting. Share adoptable cats on social media or tag PURRR in your posts to amplify our message.
Spreading awareness can inspire someone else to act, creating a chain of compassion that benefits the entire community.
Make 2025 the Year of Compassion for Cats
Turning resolutions into reality starts with a single action. Whether you choose to spay/neuter, adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate, every effort brings us closer to a world where every cat has the chance to live a healthy, happy life.
